Help Queensland get back on its feet! Give yourself a Holiday @ Koala Adventure Island
Flying into Hamilton Island on Tuesday morning from Sydney, eyes glued to the aircraft window at the sight of the Whitsunday Islands down below. The tiny little Islands amongst the clear bluey, green coloured waters.
A short ferry ride from Hamilton Island to Adventure Island, also known as South Molle Island, past some over-developed islands with resorts that encompass the whole island. You arrive at Adventure Island with the sight of lush greenery, beautiful waterfront with towering cliffs surrounding you. Jumping off the ferry you walk the long wharf to the resort spotting masses of fish, stingrays and even spotting the odd turtle swimming in the bay.
Adventure Island has different accommodation options to suit all budgets – backpacker dorms, garden view rooms, ocean view rooms and beachfront bungalows. The facilities on the Island include a swimming pool, bar, tennis court and 9 hole golf course. The bush walks on the island are classed as some of the best in Queensland, I walked to Spion Kop which is on the headland as you enter Adventure Island bay. Spectacular scenery as you trek through the bush, through mini rainforests to windswept cliff faces where the grasses are at a permanent 45 degree angle due to the wind. But as you approach the sheltered lookout at the end of the walk, the view across the bay is breathtaking.
Front desk at the resort are always willing to help with any requests for snorkel hire, internet access or laundry facilities. There is a café and a restaurant for your meals, with a wide variety of foods to choose from.
Pride of Airlie is a gorgeous catamaran, she is based on the island and is your ticket to the rest of the Whitsunday Islands and Whitehaven beach. She departs at 8am and returns at 4pm, spending the whole day island hopping allowing passengers to snorkel and explore to their heart’s content on some uninhabited islands and reefs.
Returning back to Adventure Island each evening allows you to get your land legs back and relax at the bar with fellow travellers.
A spectacular island with so much to do and see, highly recommended to all people young and old to experience the beauty and seclusion of a jewel in the Whitsundays.
Adventure Island is a must experience for anyone wanting an island getaway!
